Day 1 Addis and City Tour
Arrive in Addis Ababa and drive to the Entoto Mountain (3300m) for a panoramic view of Addis, Entoto Museum with historical and royal exhibit, The Church of St. Mary, built in 1885 and the old palace of emperor MenelikII. Take some images at Mount Entoto and we drive back to Addis for Ethnological
Museum that exhibits the culture and handicrafts of various Ethiopian ethnic groups, the National
Museum in which you are visiting different archaeological findings (including Lucy’s Skeleton), the Trinity Cathedral, Mausoleum of emperor MenelikII at Bààta Church, Unity Park. Overnight – Addis Ababa
Day2: Debre Libanos monastery, Abay Gorge – Debre Markos
We drive to north on the Gojjam road to Debre Libanos, about 110 km from Addis
Ababa. Visit Debre Libanos Monastery and Jemma River gorge with Ras Darge Bridge (known as Portuguese Bridge).
Debre Libanos is an important monastic center for Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity; the monastery was founded by the renowned 13th century
mystic, Saint Teclehaimanot and there is a small cave near the church where he is said to have stood for seven years on one leg, until the other wasted away and dropped off. On this tour, you can watch several birds as you are passing through the Sululta Plain: Expected birds Black-winged plovers, Wattled Ibis, Blue-winged geese, Common Cranes and Wheatears. On arrival at Debre Libanos, first stop at the Jemma River gorge which is tributary to Abay River ( River Nile.) Overnight – hotel – Debre Markos
Day3 - 5: Mulu Eco Village, Communities, festivals and Choke Mountain
Drive from Debre Markos to Dembecha via Gojamber- Dembecha – Anjene – Dengaybirr- Taema for Mulu Village .
Experience lifestyle of rural people in Gojjam guided by Mulu Village, if Tir 18 of Ethiopian Calendar, attend Saint Gerge’s Epiphany at Taeme town and Choke mountains (peak: 4100m asl). Overnight – Mulu Eco Village.
Day6: Asteroye Maryam Church, annual celebration
Drive to Kessa town for an amazing Asteroye Maryam Church’s annual celebration on every Ter 21(about Every January 28/29), the Replica Ark of the Covenant will be displayed, horse ride at baptism place is so special! Visit Zegena Lake on the way. Also visit Sekella (Gish Abay) – a wonderful spot where Abay River, later named Nile River starts: it is from Tilili town – Sekella (30km). Overnight – Hotel - Injibara City.
Day7: Tirba Haik ( Lake ) , Dangula Yohannes Church and Dangula Cave
Drive to Kessa town and drive to Lake Tirba (Tirba Haik), it is a crater lake surrounded by dense forest located above 2000m ASL. Then drive to Dangula Youhannes Church for Dangula Cave. This cave is so large and long. It was the patriotic shelter during Italian Occupation period (1936- 1941). Overnight – Hotel - Injibara City.
Day8: Awi ( Agew) Horse Riding Festival
On every Tir 23 (Ethiopian Calendar), on about 30 or 31 of January, the horse riding is numerous that could reach 5000 people on horses’ back marching as a fighting season during war. This custom has been developed after the war with Italy. This event should never be missed for anyone visited the area on January. Afternoon, drive to Bahir Dar. Overnight – Hotel (end of the trip)
