Choke Mountain, approximately 3386 km2 wetland area is located in Gojam Province. From Aba Felassie forest (near Debre work) in the east and close to Tillili town in the west. The mountain range is extended on a plateau that rises from a block of wet grass area and valleys at 2800m above sea level, rising to the highest point of the range, mount choke, 4100m ASL.
It is a water tower of the upper Abay River (Blue Nile River) and a source of over 60 rivers and 270 springs. Choke watershed extend from tropical alpine environments at 4100m elevation to the hot rift, Abay Gorge.
Landscape: The Vast landmark is impressive, the three peak mountains named: Gemasse Amba (ገማሴ አምባ), Qulit Amba (ቁሊተ አምባ), Lemat Amba (ሌማት አምባ) are standing majestically.
Also Molale cave, Woi-Beyign cave, Arat Mekerakir, the biodiversity, religious practices and the holy water in Zilan Zerabiruk Church, cultural events, and other small caves and historical places are interesting to be visited.
Plants: Moist moorland with Giant Lobelia. Alchemilla, Sedges and Tussocks of Festuca and Grass Species: Mountain Grasslands and Meadows are dominant At Cliffs and Rocky Areas. Woody Plants, Erica, Hypericum Revolutum And Also Arundinaria Alpina Aredominationg Are In The Mountain.
Wildlife: Leopard, Common Jackal, Colobus Monkey, Common Duiker, Anubis Baboon Bush Pig And Small Mammal Species Are Sheltered On The Mountain.
Birds: Erckel’s Francolin, Wattled Ibis White-Collared Pi, Dusky Turtle-Dove, Thick-Billed Raven, Abyssinian Long Claw, Streaky Seedeater, Abyssinian Long Claw (Endemic) And Others Are Seeable. Mulu Eco Lodge/ Mulu Village is best place to start and finish trekking

Trekking: The Choke Mountains is so much appropriate for those who love trekking in high altitude. Trekking from the Mulu Village to Choke Mountains is possible. Trekking days depend on individual tour plan but a minimum of 3 days is recommended.
Choke Mountains Eco Village ( Mulu Village) : it is located south west of Choke Mountains (via Dembecha - Feresbet road.) The founders are Mr. Abiy Alem Mehari (Ethiopian), Valerie Seitz (Germany) and local communities. Their Ideology, applicable in the village is so interesting. They have lodges, meals that will be prepared by their own menu (choice). To stay in their village, a minimum of 3(three) days are mandatory. This is due to their plan to communicate and experience the local people and activities.
Debre Markos – Choke Mountains
Located north of Debre Markos (40kms from Debre Markos). It is possible to visit the mountains via Debre Markos City and back to have an overnight and then continue to north tourist destinations.
Note: Mid-January is best season to trek on Choke Mountains, attend Temqat at Taeme Town near Mulu Lodge, annual Asteroye Maryam Church celebration on every Ter 21 and Ter 23 for Agew Horse Riding festival (both Ethiopian Calendar), Terba Lake and Dangula washa (Cave), Sekella / Gish Aba – where Abay (Blue Nile River) starts, Zegena Lake and Mandura Market (Gumuz Tribe) on every Saturday. All can be visited with Choke Mountains.
