To mention some, Surma & Mursi (both ethnic’s women cut their lips to insert the clay plates as a sign of beauty), Hamar (also spelled as Hamer), Bena, Konso People, Bume, Nyangatom, Karo People, Arbore People, Dassenech People, Menit, Dizi People & etc practice amazing tradition & culture. Bull Jumping ceremony is being performed by Hamers- frequented between Septembers – October and at random time before/after the main rainy season (February – April).

DONGA - stick fighting is being performed by Surma people – most probable on every September. Markets in the upper and lower Omo are unique and worthy to be visited. The Lower Omo is land of a remarkable mix of small ethnic groups with unique cultures! The Bume and Konso, the Galeb (Dassenech), the Bodi, the Mursi, the Surma, the Arbore, the Karo, the Hamer (Hamar), Tsemay, Dorze, Dizi are the major peoples dwelling in the region. They live almost without the current global civilization & technology! Their culture, artifacts, ornaments & decorations they use are simple & unique. The Hamar, the Surma, the Karo tribes, for instance, are experts in body paintings, using clays and locally available vegetable pigments to trace incredible patterns on their faces, chests, arms, hairs and legs.
